Letter to GPNS Membership from Save Our School Committee 9.06.07

Dear GPNS Families:

As we informed you in August, staff of the Montgomery County Department of Parks recently presented a proposal to transfer or demolish the building in which we operate, the Garrett Park Estates Recreation Center.

The GPNS Board has sent letters to the Commissioners on the Montgomery County Planning Board and a number of other local elected officials setting forth our opposition to the proposal and our concerns about the investigative process that went into formulating the proposal (copies of those letters are attached).  We await responses to specific questions we have posed about that process and the criteria staff used in making their recommendations.

For us to be heard, we need your help!!!  We have set up a way for you to email a letter expressing your concern to the approapriate Commissioners and local officials.  Visit the Save GPNS campaign site, fill in your information, and have your view automatically sent. Please personalize your email by letting the recipients know how your are involved in the school (as a parent, as an alumni, as a community supporter) and what the school means to you.   Please help us in this effort to save our school by letting them know how you feel about the thought of the nursery school having to move, possibly out of Garrett Park.

We are providing similar information to alumni and other friends of the school so that they can also send this letter, write other letters and/or make phone calls on our behalf.

The Garrett Park Town Council included this issue on their September 10 agenda. The Montgomery County Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the proposal sometime in the fall and there may be additional meetings.  We will inform you all as soon as we are told of the date and location for any hearings or meetings.

If you have any questions or comments or would like to take on a bigger role, please contact the Board or Angie Melton and Tara Flynn, co-chairs of the "Save our School" Task Force.

Thank you for your efforts.
