Garrett Park Nursery School (GPNS) offers an "Extended Day Program" to children enrolled in the 3's and 4's morning classes.
What is Extended Day?
The Extended Day Program is a continuation of the 3's and 4's morning classes. It provides the children an opportunity for extra time in the classroom and further socialization with their classmates. In keeping with our philosophy, choices of play and learning material will be available for free play indoors and outdoors. The teacher will also prepare stimulating and varied projects for the children. Time will be set aside for the children to eat lunch together in class. Lunch is provided by the parent.
When is the Extended Day held?
The Extended Day Program will follow the morning classes from 11:30am to 1:00pm. This program runs from October through May.
Extended Day will be offered to members of the 3's and 4's classes on any day their morning class meets: five days per week for the 4's class, three days per week for the 3's class. Although it is recommended that families do not enroll their children for each day that Extended Day is offered to their class. We encourage parents of the 4's class to utilize Tuesdays and Thursdays so that parents so that parents of the 3's class have an equal change at enrollment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Every effort will be made to balance enrollment between the 3's and 4's classes on the days when both classes meet: Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Substitutions or one-time pick-up of days is are not permitted. There must be 8 children enrolled on any given day to hold an Extended Day class. We will be offering Extended Day on any day Monday through Friday for which the minimum enrollment is met. Enrollment will close at 12 children.
Who teaches the Extended Day class?
There will be one qualified teacher and one co-oping parent for each class with between 8 and 12 children. The amount of co-oping required by any one parent will be determined by the number of days the child is enrolled.
